Today 12 July 2010 three young European winners from Lithuania, Poland and Romania were rewarded for their participation in the Safer Internet Day 2010 Quiz. Hosted by Insafe - the European network promoting safe and responsible use of internet and mobile devices to young people - and the Romanian Sigur.info Consortium, the award ceremony took place in the traditional setting of Bran, Romania. Thanks to the support of key industry partners Liberty Global Inc. and Microsoft, the winners are also participating in a youth summer camp along with 50 other teens. Together they will learn more about online safety.

 Because Insafe believes that the internet safety champions should be given the same status as sports champions, it is important to highlight young people who demonstrate prowess in the field. Through this competition the Insafe network reasserts its commitment to encouraging young people to behave responsibly online. The winners will be promoted as Insafe youth ambassadors for online safety and help to spread ideas about how to keep the internet safe for everyone who uses it.

 Almost 20,000 youths between 9-15 years of age took part in the quiz on the theme “Think before you post!”, clearly illustrating the success of Safer Internet Day among young people.

Next year, Safer Internet Day will be organised on 8 February 2011 and will deal more specifically with virtual worlds, with a campaign based on the slogan “It’s more than a game, it’s your life”. Stay posted on www.saferinternetday.org.
