Help your parents understand what the internet is. Show them your favorite websites, explain to them what the chat and MySpace are and share with them the fantastic world of the Internet.
Avoid giving out personal information such as your home address and telephone number as also the name and location of your school. Never give your parents' personal information, or the details of your their bank cards.
Be careful who you send your picture to as some people may use it wrongly and hurtfully.
Never open e-mail attachments from people you don't know of and don't trust; they may have viruses. Viruses are hiding in e-mails and in files that are downloaded from the web.
Do not agree to get together with someone you "met" online without first checking with your parents or a trusted adult. Be sure that the meeting is in a public place with adult supervision.
If you come across any information that makes you feel uncomfortable, please tell your parents or a trusted adult right away or contact the local available hotline.
Never give out your Internet password to anyone, except to your parents, not even to your best friends. They may use it and pretend that it's you.
It's better to avoid entering websites that are addressed for people older than 18 years old. The warnings are there to protect you. These websites can sometimes increase your phone bill and expose you in illegal content.
Please do check with your parents or teachers before downloading or installing software or doing anything that could possibly hurt your computer or jeopardize your family's privacy.
Try to always be honest and not cheat other people on the internet.
REMEMBER: Do not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make you feel uncomfortable. It is not your fault if you get a message like that. If you do, tell your parents or a trusted adult right away so that they can contact the service provider or contact the local available hotline.
