Dr. (pend) George Zikas
Human Rights in Education Network
Mr. Zikas is a primary school, Head Assistant, and has active involvement in the Civil Society since the 1980's. He is a holder of a Masters degree in Curriculum and Intercultural Teaching Methodology.  Mr. Zikas is an expert trainer for youth, adults, teachers on Human Rights and Intercultural Education as well as an Educational Curriculum Designer.  Since September 2002, he is the Project Manager of Human Rights Education Network.  He is a Phd candidate at the Department of Education, University of Cyprus.

Dr. Loucas Aristodemou
Cyprus Consumers Union & Quality of Life
Dr. Aristodemou, President of the Cyprus Consumers Union & Quality of Life, is an engineer with extensive experience in management. He has been very active in civil society for the past decades. Among many other posts he served as President of the Cyprus Committee for Gender Equality in Education and Labour, Member of the Board of Governors - Cyprus Organisation for Standards, (CYS), Member of the Cyprus Advisory Committee for Industry & Technology (ACIT)

Mr. Klitos Symeonides
Cyprus Adult Education Association
Mr. Symeonides is since 1982 President of the Cyprus Adult Education Association and since 1992 he also serves as President of Friendship Force for Cyprus. Originally a teacher, then School Inspector Mr. Symeonides was for many years the Supervisor of the Adult Education Centers for the Ministry of Education.

Dr. Tanya Kyriakides
Hellenic Consumer Organization
Tanya Kyriakides is president of EKATO – Hellenic Consumers Union, with a Phd specialization in organizing and coordinating campaigns of social intervention she is the president of the Cyprus consumers Union and has been coordinating the Greek Node for Safer Internet.  Dr. Kyriakides with her invaluable social skills and her deep knowledge over issues on the safer use of the internet she stood by the side of the Cypriot not offering her assistance in the first step of CyberEthics.  She time and again visited Cyprus as a guest either of CYTA for promoting the Safer use of the Internet or of CyberEthics for talking over a code of contact for the Internet in a pan European conference organized in collaboration with the Cyprus Youth Council.

Mr. Nicos Vitsaides
Pancyprian Parents & Guardian Association
Mr. Vistaides, an active and informed parent, is the president of the Pancyprian Parents and Guardians Association.  He eagerly participates in activities and meetings undertaken by the Node and offers his invaluable assistance and coordination for promoting the safer use of the Internet amongst our youth.
 
Mrs. Despo Hadjiloizou
Family Planning Association
Mrs. Hadjiloizou is employed at the Cyprus Family Planning Association as the Executive Director.  She has been working at the Association for the past 27 years. She is also in charge of the Association’s clinic offering clinical and counseling services. She has worked as a Nursing Sister at Moorehaven Hospital, Plymouth, Devon and West Park Hospital, Epsom, Surrey, UK. She had short studies in Fine Art at the Heatherley School of Fine Art London, UK. She has a Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing with the professional title RMN (Registered Mental Nurse). She attended a course in Middle Line Management at Ewell College and was trained as a Sex Educator in UK, Holland, Yugoslavia and Cyprus. She is a Marital Counselor following training at Herbert Gray College, UK. 

Mrs. Maria Epaminonda
Family Planning Association
Mrs. Epaminonda is a Program Officer at Cyprus Family Planning Association (CFPA) since 2004. She has completed her studies at the University of La Verne (Athens Campus, Greece) and attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing in 1993. As a Program Officer at CFPA she has developed numerous projects and awareness campaigns regarding the promotion of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights through the media. 
 

 

The Youth Council on Board

Ms. Xenia Constantinou
Cyprus Youth Council
Ms. Xenia Constantinou is the Secretary of the Board. She currently serves as research associate for the European Citizenship project. She has studied Political Science at the University of Cyprus and she has a Master in International Relations from the University of Essex (UK). Before working for C.N.T.I. she worked as a research assistant for the University of Cyprus for projects like "Women and Politics", "Volunteerism", "Turkey's Foreign Policy on Cyprus" etc. As a coordinator of "Youth Promoting Peace" the group expanded and realised many activities like, music festivals, conferences, parties, bi-communal and mono-communal workshops, the production of a CD and a short movie that portrays the adventures of a bi-communal youth group.

Mr. Pantelis Makris
Min. of Education
Mr. Pantelis Makris served as Member of the Board for many years and heads the Special Education Unit, which pioneers in the development of screening/evaluation as well as treatment software-based tools for learning difficulties. He is a special education inspector employed by the Ministry of Education, member of the multidisciplinary committee for the assessment of special needs children, President of the Information and Communication Technology Committee at the Ministry of Education, project manager for various European and non European projects (ARION, COST, UNOPS, IPE) and Coordinator of ICT use for Children with Mental Retardation integrated in Secondary and Higher Education.

From the Academia

Prof. Harry Anastasiou
Dr. Anastasiou is Vice Head of the Peace & Conflict Unit of Portland State University. He holds a Doctorandus Degree from the Free University of Amsterdam, Holland in the Sociology of Technology and a Ph.D. in the Political Sociology of Peace and Conflict from the Union Institute & University, Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a long-standing researcher and experienced practitioner on how technology must be integrated in our lives.

Prof. Aleco Christakis
Prof. Aleco Christakis has 35 years of experience in developing and testing methods for engaging stakeholders in productive dialogue. He is author of over 100 papers on stakeholder participation. Recently, he published the book How People Harness their Collective Wisdom and Power to Create the Future (2006), which brings the science of structured dialogue closer to international users. He is Past President of the International Society for the Systems Sciences (2002), President of the Institute for 21st Century Agoras, Member of the Board of the Americans for Indian Opportunity (AIO) and Advisor to the AIO, and an advisor in the Ambassadors leadership program for engaging tribal leaders from the USA and internationally.
Prof. Christakis and his Institute 21st Agoras have served as Advisors of the Knowledge Management Team that facilitated all structured dialogue sessions during the Limassol insafe meeting 17-19 Sep, 2007. He has recently joined the International Advisory Board of Cyprus Neuroscience & Technology Institute and works together with Dr. Laouris’ team in furthering the science and applicability of structured dialogue.

Prof. Suzan Drucker
Dr. Susan Drucker is Professor Media Expert, Professor of Journalism, Media Studies and Public Relations at St. Johns University, School of law, M.A Queens College CUNY. She collaborates with the Cyprus Neuroscience & Technology Institute since 1995. During 2006 she and Prof. Emeritus Gary Gumpert collaborated in a research project concerning the utilization of cognitive capacity when viewing news on a split screen. She is also a special advisor for the “Talk of the Island,” and the “Civil Society Dialogue” projects.

Dr. Nikleia Eteokleous
Dr. Eteokleous is Assistant Professor for Educational Technology at  the Frederick University. She serves as member of the Advisory Board as well as a Researcher for CyberEthics. She holds a Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University in Educational Leadership. She also has two master degrees, in Educational Administration, and in Instructional Systems with emphasis in Computer Technology in Education, from the Pennsylvania State University, and a bachelor degree in Public and Business Administration from University of Cyprus. Served as a branch manager and computer instructor at Cyber Kids for several years. She has also worked as a research assistant for three years at the Educational Leadership Program at the Pennsylvania State University. Her research focuses on areas of educational leadership and management, computer technology in education, and systemic change in education. Her recent publications are about mobile learning and distance education. Will serve as Coordinator.

Prof. Gary Gumpert
Dr. Gary Gumpert is Professor Emeritus of Communication Arts and Sciences, Queen College, City University of New York, USA. He collaborates with C.N.T.I. since 1995. During 2006 he and Prof. Suzan Drucker collaborated in a research project concerning the utilization of cognitive capacity when viewing news on a split screen. He is also a special advisor for the “Talk of the Island,” and the “Civil Society Dialogue” projects.
Dr. Gumpert is member of International advisory Board of C.N.T.I. and of the Advisory Board for the CyberEthics project.

Prof. Joseph Joseph
Joseph S. Joseph is Associate Professor of International Relations and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair in European Foreign and Security Policy at the University of Cyprus, where he was Chair of the Department of Social and Political Sciences until December 2004.  He served as Minister Plenipotentiary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus.  He has published five books with leading international publishers, about fifty chapters and articles in scholarly journals, presented more than 100 papers at international conferences and gave lectures at leading universities including Oxford, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Johns Hopkins etc.

Dr. Charoulla Angeli
Dr. Angeli is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Education at the University of Cyprus. She is involved in the training of teachers and publishes widely in new theories and methodologies in e-learning.


Prof. Alivisos Sofos
Dr. Sofos is Professor of sociology at the Rhodes University in Greece and serves as an external advisor. His expertise is in the pedagogies of the media with emphasis in new technologies.

Dr. Sofia-Ema Leityo
Dr. Laityo has a PhD from the School of Journalism, Media & Cultural Studies, University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom. Her thesis entitled “Constructed Childhoods: A study of selected television programmes for children with particular reference to the Portuguese case”, was nominated by JOMEC for the ICA (International Communication Association) Mass Communication Division's dissertation award 2007. Dr. Laityo is the Portuguese Member of EU Kidsonline consortium, of which CNTI is a member. She serves as our liaison to the European EU Kindsonline consortium as well as advisor to the Research team.

The world of the law

Ms. Olga Georgiadou
Mrs. Georgiadou, European Law and Telecommunications LawExpert, a practicing lawyer is one of the few lawyers in cyprus specialized on the legal framework surrounding IT. Mrs. Georgiadou, was invited in the Advisory Board of the CyberEthics node and offers her expert knowledge to the project team. Mrs. Georgiadou will be one of the panelists in the municipality presentations organized for the second half of the project.

Mr. Takis Hadjigeorgiou
Mr. Hadjigeorgiou, member of the Parliament and member of the Committee for Education, is a licensed lawyer. He served in the world of the media for many years. For the past 20 years he headed the most popular radio station in Cyprus, Astra 92.8. He publishes regularly in local newspapers about ethics, democracy and his vision for a better world.


Cyber-crime unit Police Department

Mr. George Karkas
Mr. George Karkas is an Acting Sergeant with number 1623. He is a member of the Cyber-Crime office in Police Headquarters since 19/12/2007. He joined the Police on 29/10/1996 and finished the Police Academy in November 1999. He served for three years in local stations in the district of Nicosia and was transfered in 2002 to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Nicosia, where he served for five years as an investigator. In 2007 he was promoted to an Acting Sergeant and in the same year he was transfered to the Cyber-Crime office. In 2008 he has finished his diploma, FDA Investigation & Evidence from the University of Portsmouth of UK. Moreover, he has received training in handling juvenile persons in violence and further education both abroad and in Cyprus on computer forensics.

The world of IT

Ms. Nicol Christodoulidou.
Product Manager, Data Services Management Department of Internet Services within CYTA. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting Studies, Ealing College of Higher Education / CNAA, London, UK. She was previously working as a Product Manager of Premium Rate Numbers Service and as a Project Developer of Project and Portfolio Department of Internet Services within CYTA. She has been very strongly involved in many internal projects in the field of Internet. She will contribute within WPs 3, 5 and 6.  Prior to working at CYTA, she occupied a position as an Auditor (at PriceWaterHouse) and as a Financial Controller at various companies.


Mr. Agis Piperides
Currently is the Head of Support of Corporate Customers Management. Also member of the Board of Director of Emporion Plaza Ltd, a subsidiary company of CYTA that specialises in e-Commerce solutions and internet applications.  He holds an MBA, from Cyprus International Institute of Management, an M.Phil. and a B.Sc.(Eng) form Queen Mary College at the University of London.  He has a strong involvement in many internal projects in the field of Data & Telephone switching and recently in the Internet domain.  Project leader in the Introduction of E-Commerce that is run by CYTA.  Participated in R&D projects such as E-minder and MB-Net sponsored by the 5th Framework Program of the European Union under the framework of IST. Main responsibility in the CyberEthics project - Coordinator within CYTA.
